Making southwest Orem a better place to live.
Over the past twenty years, the southwest quadrant of Orem city has experienced tremendous growth and expansion. Much of the growth has been desirable; but some has not. The peace, enjoyment and future stability of neighborhoods in southwest Orem have suffered more impact from UVSC growth, from student housing & retail developments, from illegal rentals, and from major roadway projects than has any other quadrant within the city. Many of these impact decisions were made by officials with very little, or no input from the citizens living in southwest Orem.
If the past two decades are any indication, we should expect a future with continual proposals targeted at southwest Orem, originating from UVSC, UDOT, Orem City, and from student housing and retail developers. Many such initiatives will heavily impact the peace and enjoyment of our present neighborhoods. We must have a voice in these proposals and actions, or many of our neighborhoods in southwest Orem will not survive the next two decades.
What can average citizens do single-handedly? They can try to become informed; they can lobby the authorities; they can make comments at public meetings. Everyone knows that a single voice is better than no voice. But we also understand that a unified collective voice, speaking on behalf of all of us has a much stronger, more successful impact on decision makers within our political system. For these reasons, the Southwest Alliance has been created. We want to protect our neighborhoods from outside forces, and have a strong influence on future decisions concerning southwest Orem.
The mission of the Southwest Alliance is to preserve and enhance the
quality of life in the neighborhoods of southwest Orem.
